This conference is organized in the part of a weekend [18 to 19 February 2011] dedicated to Black Mountain College .
The Black Mountain College (1933-1957) to sign both the realization of a set of ideas that were at the heart of American pragmatism and the beginning of an experience the richness and uniqueness lasting mark in its most innovative American art of the twentieth century. In this sense it is a double "passage to action" that we are dealing with that and basically that this dialogue will be devoted to: the Black Mountain College was, for its creators and artists and intellectuals who were the actors, John Rice to Robert Rauschenberg and John Cage, during a practice of an art and a pedagogy designed to liquidate the old institutional divisions, aesthetic and political the place of an experiment, one of which major innovations has been to focus on action in the art as well as in pedagogy and aesthetic experience against the patterns and habits that had hitherto prevailed.
